Kagami River

鏡川(Kagami gawa)
The waterway of Kochi City
Cutting through Kochi City, this clear, 31-kilometer long waterway’s name literally means “mirror river” due to its clarity. As the water is incredibly clean, despite passing through a major city, during the summer it is common to see children playing along the shallow banks, and it is said that Kochi-born reformer Ryoma Sakamoto used to swim in this river during his childhood.

More recently, the Kagami River has gained a new claim to fame, as the model of the river that appears repeatedly in the animated film “BELLE.” Since the river passes right through the center of the city, it is easy to take a detour during your explorations, so that you can experience the beauty of the waterway just like Suzu (the film's protagonist) did!
