Nikobuchi: a waterfall plunge pool with crystal clear waters
The color of Nikobuchi, located upstream on the Niyodo River, will leave you understanding why the waters here are called Niyodo Blue .
Even though Nikobuchi is the small plunge pool of a waterfall, the water is so transparent that you can still see the bottom.
The waterfall basin is at the bottom of a valley surrounded by trees, so doesn't see much direct sunlight. However, the color of the water changes from green to blue depending on the time of day. The best time to witness Niyodo Blue is around midday when the sunlight shines down directly onto the water.

When visiting the area, be sure to wear appropriate clothing that's easy to move in as the course involves roped inclines and steep stairways. Nikobuchi is considered a sacred by the locals, so swimming is prohibited here.
