Katsuo no Tataki and Myojinmaru Restaurant

明神丸 梅野 かつおの藁焼き体験 (Myoujinmaru Umeno Katsuonowarayakitaiken)
Make your own katsuo on tataki at a famous local restaurant
The Umeno branch of the famous Myojinmaru restaurant offers a hands on katsuo no tataki (seared bonito) experience. This is only branch in the group that has this fun activity before you sit down to a delicious meal of local delicacies.
The intense straw flame that can reach almost 1000 degrees quickly sears the outside of the bonito giving it a smoky flavour while keeping the inside fresh and raw. Sprinkle the fish with a special sun dried salt made by salt masters in Kuroshio Town to bring out the subtle flavours of the fish.
Searing the bonito takes about a minute, and is simple and fun for people of all ages to participate. Complete your meal with fresh fish dishes direct from Muroto Cape or oden (Japanese hot pot) made with a special broth. The restaurant seats 101 people so it can accommodate large groups.
