The World’s First Dual-Mode Vehicle

DMV デュアルモードビークル (Dual-Mode Vehicle)
Is it a train? Is it a bus? The DMV is both!
Connecting Kochi with neighboring Tokushima Prefecture, the Asa Seaside Railway is the proud operator of the world’s very first “train bus.” The three cute, brightly colored DMV (dual-mode vehicles) operate between Awa Kainan Bunkamura and the town of Toyo, and on weekends and holidays even run one trip a day to the sights around Cape Muroto.

This one-of-a-kind vehicle only takes 15 seconds to switch between train and bus mode, and definitely causes gasps of surprise when you see it running along on the coast-side train tracks. At both Awa-Kainan Station and Kannoura Station you can see the DMV switch modes, so be sure to check it out.

With regular departures every day, visitors can enjoy a ride on the newest concept in vehicle technology!
