Muroto Schoolhouse Aquarium

むろと廃校水族館(Muroto Haiko Suizokukan)
The First School/Aquarium in Japan
Muroto Schoolhouse Aquarium is housed in a former elementary school. Instead of students, you will find small hammerhead sharks swimming in the outdoor pool, sea cucumbers lounging in long washbasins, and sea turtles relaxing in a large tank. Wander through the corridors, science labs and libraries to meet 1,000 sea creatures of 50 different species, who live in school-themed tanks.
Get to know the Kochi’s sea life, much of it indigenous to the fishing town of Muroto City, while getting a glimpse into what schools in Japan are like!
