Autumn Starts in Kochi With Yuzu
A sign of the arrival of Autumn in Kochi, the ""Yuzu Hajimaru Festival"" is an event celebrating the start of the Yuzu harvest season.
Kochi Prefecture is the largest yuzu producing region in Japan.
In particular, the mountains of Kochi experience large differences in temperature during a day, making them ideal for yuzu production and yielding highly aromatic and flavorful yuzu.
Umaji Village comes together on one day in late October or early November to celebrate the yuzu season at the "Yuzu Hajimaru Festival."
The event site around the Yuzu-no-Mori Processing Plant operated by the Umaji Village Agricultural Cooperative is filled with a refreshing aroma, and visitors can enjoy events such as sales of fresh-squeezed yuzu vinegar and all-you-can-drink of the Gokkun Umaji Village yuzu drink.
Through experiencing yuzu squeezing, visiting the yuzu plant, and talking with the producers, come encounter the yuzu culture of Kochi.

| Directions | From Kochi City, take National Route 55 for an hour and 20 minutes to Yasuda Town. From there, travel on Prefectural Route 12 for around 30 minutes to reach Umaji Village. By train, take the Gomen-Nahari Line of the Tosa Kuroshio Railway to Yasuda Station. On the day of the festival, a free shuttle bus will run from Yasuda Station to the festival site (approximately 30 minutes). Parking is not available at Yasuda Station. |
