Shimanto River

A rare sight even in Japan, these traditional sail boats used long ago still sail on the crystalline waters of the Shimanto River. The speed of the boat changes with the fluctuating breeze as it glides across the gentle flowing river: the sound of the water and twitter of small birds makes for a relaxing and peaceful experience. While these boats were once a regular means of transport, they now play an important role in preserving the original scenery of the region.
