Sightseeing in Kochi…on the run!
Online sign-ups for the annual Kochi Ryoma Marathon are now open until October 31st on a first-come, first-served basis! Below is a general overview of the event but please check the official website (linked at the end) for details on eligibility, course information, participation rules, etc
Event details
The Kochi Ryoma Marathon marks its celebratory 10th anniversary in 2024! The event includes a full marathon (42.195 kilometers / maximum capacity of 12,000 people) and pair relay (approximately 43 kilometers / maximum capacity of 300 teams equivalent to 600 people), both with a 7-hour time limit. If you are between a first-grader and under 18 years old, or a wheelchair-user, you can sign up for the fun run (1.4 kilometers / maximum capacity of 500 people) with a 40-minute time limit.
Date and time
Rain or shine, the event will take place on February 18, 2024 (Sunday). The full marathon and pair relay both officially start at 9AM and end at 4PM. The fun run starts at 8:40AM and ends at 9:20AM.
Entry fee
Including accident insurance premiums and more, the full marathon costs 13,000 yen, the pair relay per team is 18,000 yen, and the fun run is 1,000 yen.

This event is not only meant to celebrate the vibrant energy of sports and its ability to bring people together, but also, immerse participants in Kochi’s warm hospitality, delicious food, serene nature and more! In the past, staff provided local snacks and foods like rice with katsuo (bonito) flakes, to help runners refuel during the race! From 400-year-old Kochi Castle to the crystal-clear Niyodo River, the route also immerses you in the beauty of the region.
