Making colorful memories along the Niyodo River
Are you looking for an unforgettable adventure? Look no further…the Niyodo River awaits!
Miyazaki-no-Kawara is a free campground located along one of the Niyodo River’s tributaries. Home to beautiful calm waters, this spot is ideal for families with young children or those who might want to try activities like standup paddleboarding (SUP) for the first time
One of my recommended (and arguably most photogenic) ways to enjoy the Niyodo River is by hopping on a clear Crystal Kayak. The friendly staff at Niyodogawa Outdoor Center will take you on a stunning 2-hour guided tour to various spots where you might even witness schools of pretty fish
A delightful bonus is that you don’t have to worry about potentially dropping your device in the river while snapping a photo because your guide will double as a personal cameraperson! You'll get the photos after the tour so you can keep the memories with you forever
I might be getting ahead of myself here but...I must mention the nearby Hyotan Sakura Park, which is home to an epic 500-year-old cherry tree (designated a Natural Monument by Kochi Prefecture)! It’s a must-visit spot if you’re planning a trip in spring
So, now that you’ve been active and paddled around the Niyodo River, we must ask…what’s for lunch?
Miraie Kitchen is a great spot especially if you’re headed back to Kochi City (about 30 minutes from Miyazaki-no-Kawara campground by car). Here, you’ll find a range of delicious menu items that use local ingredients. My recommendation though, would be the colorful inaka-sushi, which is a Kochi specialty that traditionally combines yuzu vinegar rice with a variety of mountain veggies
