Barrier-free Kochi! Here are some spots to visit

On the Kochi Barrier-free Tourism website, we offer a range of accessibility information to help ease any concern about traveling here, whether you are a wheelchair-user, someone with visual impairment, hard of hearing, etc. Come follow wheelchair influencer @Ryoko Nakajima around some must-visit spots!

Kumo-no-Ue-no Library

Located in the quaint town of Yusuhara is a gorgeous library designed by one of Japan’s most famous architects, Kengo Kuma. The wooden structure offers the perfect cozy environment to make you want to pick up a good book and let time just melt away

Shoes are not allowed inside so the staff will come wipe your wheelchair tires
Elevators and lifts are available

Kuroshio Kobo

Katsuo no tataki (seared bonito) is Kochi’s ultimate comfort food, and you can experience making it yourself at Kuroshio Kobo under the guidance of a professional master chef! If you can stay overnight in the area, check out Kuroshio Honjin, which is a hot spring inn right next door

Accessible parking and elevators are available at the inn

Sada Chinkabashi

Kochi is dotted with these submersible bridges (constructed without side rails to withstand floods) and they're definitely worth visiting! If you get to visit Sada Chinkabashi, I highly recommend getting on a yakatabune (traditional leisure boat) to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Shimanto River from a different angle. Of course, wheelchair-users are welcome! The yakatabune staff at Sakoya will happily assist you

Kochi Prefectural Ashizuri Aquarium

Located in western Kochi, Ashizuri Aquarium is home to around 15,000 marine animals of 350 species! The aquarium tells the story of Cape Ashizuri and takes you on an adventure from primeval forests in the mountains to coral reefs flourishing with marine life????

Overall, the paths in the aquarium are flat, wide and easy to navigate but some parts may be wet so please be careful of slippage
