It’s the birthday of a Kochi-born hero who became one of the founding fathers of modern Japan: Ryoma Sakamoto!
As the hometown of Ryoma Sakamoto, Kochi City holds festivals celebrating his birthday. This year, the 48th Ryoma Festival was held on November 14th! There were workshops where you could make a Ryoma mask and a walking tour around Katsurahama Park with a professional historian
At the Memorial Museum at Ryoma's Birthplace, there were special birthday events on the 14th and 15th as well. You could join their quiz rally and win a lovely reward like katsuo no tataki! (seared bonito) There was a decorated photo spot and many other presents that sprinkled tiny joys and memories on the visitors
If you are interested in history or just enjoy a festive vibe, November 15th is one of the best days to visit Kochi!
