There are numerous hiking paths along the Niyodo River’s tributaries, but Nakatsu Gorge offers possibly the best combination of beauty and accessibility. The gentle, relatively flat 2.3 km trail takes you among dynamic rock formations across little bridges and crisscrossing paths, leading you to a marvelous reward at the end: the Uryu no Taki waterfall. One look, and it’s clear why this 20-meter-high waterfall is regarded as a sacred spot
Another aspect that makes Nakatsu Gorge so special (and feel like a fun mission) are the seven stone statues of the shichifukujin (Seven Gods of Fortune) dotted along the path. They are deities believed to bring good fortune and prosperity
Come visit Nakatsu Gorge and see if you can spot all seven!
