Float over the crystal clear water of the Shimanto River

In the late 1890s, traditional sailboats (senba) like this were an important form of transportation on the Shimanto River. These cool boats were used to ship charcoal made in an area called Ekawasaki (around the middle of Shimanto) to the mouth of the river, and brought back groceries for the people who lived along the river. On a busy day, over 100 sailboats would sail up and down the river!

Nowadays roads and cars have taken over the sailboats' job, so now they are used for sightseeing cruises for visitors! Floating along on this traditional wooden boat, you can enjoy the clear water of the Shimanto up close, while the autumn breezes gently push you along

The ride is about 45 to 50 minutes, and usually departs every hour from 9:15 (check the latest information when you visit!)
