If you are driving along the beautiful Kochi coast to Muroto, be sure to stop at the traditional retro town of Kiragawa, about 1 hour and 40 minutes from Kochi City
Kiragawa is famous for its white-walled traditional buildings, which are built using special old-school techniques to resist rain and wind since this area gets quite a few typhoons. This beautiful neighborhood is designated a National Preservation Area and several buildings are open to curious visitors
One of the buildings is converted into a cozy modern café/inn called Kura-ku-kan, where you can have a cup of freshly roasted coffee and homemade sweets! Also, there is a bakery called Tokuya on the main street that has been in business for over 50 years. People who try their bread are amazed by the fluffy texture, so this homey little shop has fans all over Japan!
Be sure to explore the historical masterpieces, and indulge in a cup of delicious coffee and a sweet pastry
