The Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark

The Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark is a park that covers the area of the city of Muroto, where visitors can discover and understand the close relationship between local people and nature, through its geology, topography, local culture, flora and fauna.

The geopark is divided into 5 outstanding areas: 
Hane Area and Marine Terraces:  Visitors can walk on an ancient seabed at Cape Hane and enjoy the panoramic views of the sea and the plateaus offered by the sea terraces around Hane.

Kiragawa Area and Gyodo-Kuromi coastline:  Kiragawa has been designated as a preservation district by the government, thanks to the traditional and unique architecture of its houses.

Muroto Area: Three temples of the Shikoku Pilgrimage are located around the Muroto area: Kongocho-ji, Shinsho-ji and Hotsumisaki-ji. It is the perfect place for people seeking a spiritual environment.

Cape Muroto Area:  Visitors can feel the power of nature while enjoying a breathtaking sunset.

Sakihama Area and East Coast:  Visitors can experience various cultural events such as Niwaka, a kind of satire. If you are a nature lover, you definitely should visit Mt. Dannotani. Its 200 year-old cedars with logs of 10 m in circumference will leave you speechless!
