Kiragawa, a town that has been devised to protect the buildings from the heavy rains and typhoons!
Kirakawa Town was developed from Meiji to Showa era, and it is offering visitors the view of the old streets from that time over 750 meters east-west and 250 meters north-south.
Due to the high frequency of typhoons and heavy rains that pass through the area, most of the buildings and houses have walls covered with local white plaster called "Tosa Shikkui” (Tosa plaster), for protection. What draws the most attention is that "Kawara"(curved tiles) have been taken and embedded into the walls in lines. These tiles stand out so that the rain does not damage the building, forcing it to run off the walls.
If you have the opportunity to walk through the streets of this town in kimono or hakama someday, don't forget to take pictures!
