The Kochi Castle Museum of History is worthy of a visit in its own right, particularly with the addition of their interactive audio guides in multiple languages.
However, when you need a hot drink on a cold day, head for the museum café on the second floor for a warming latte, complete with some talented art toppings. Visitors can choose between a graphic of Sakamato Ryoma, the famous, locally-born leader of the drive to overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate, or an adorable image of the Kochi Castle mascot, a rabbit wearing a samurai helmet. (The actual helmet, which inspired the mascot’s design, can be seen in the museum itself.)
Be sure to sip your artsy beverage near the café’s picture windows, from where you can enjoy some of the city’s best views of historic Kochi Castle.
