The legendary Yosakoi Festival in Kochi City is just around the corner (August 9th to 12th)! If you’re joining us this year, I highly recommend reading through our post from last month sharing information and tips on how best to enjoy the festival (linked at the end)
From the simple rules that dancers have to follow during their performances, to other aspects of the event you don't want to miss, check out a few additional points below
Rules of yosakoi
Dancers need to proceed forward while holding wooden naruko clappers, and the music has to incorporate phrases from the yosakoi-bushi folk song. That’s it! Beyond that, dancers are free to use any style of music, customize costumes to best represent their spirit, and more!
Festival food
One of the best aspects about summer festivals in Japan is devouring authentic street food! The Yosakoi Festival is no exception, and you will find yatai (outdoor food stalls) typically selling scrumptious items like yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancakes), etc.
Fireworks
The Kochi City Noryo Firework Festival is scheduled to take place between 8PM to 9PM on the 9th (postponed to the 13th if the weather conditions are not ideal). If you want a good view of the fireworks from the designated seating area, please note that you will need to purchase and reserve your spot in advance. Learn more about buying tickets here:

Last but not least…have fun! The Yosakoi Festival is all about sharing a great time with friends, family and those you might meet for the first time during the event, so don't forget to savor the moment and enjoy! It shall be an epic summer to remember
