All smiles and delicious coffee up in the sky

What is it like to visit one of Japan’s top three karsts, which reaches 1,485 meters above sea level at its peak? The purely happy, relaxed, and peaceful expression of this shiba inu doggy says it all

The Shikoku Karst Natural Park makes a wonderful addition to your itinerary, especially if you’re already visiting the charming town of Yusuhara, just 30 minutes away by car. Observe exposed limestone clusters spread across the rolling expanse of mountains, drive along the appropriately-nicknamed “Road in the Sky” (Route 383) designated as one of Japan’s 100 most scenic roads, and refresh your mind on a forest hike featuring trees that are up to 600 years old!

After all the exploring, perhaps you would like some refreshments and specifically…an obligatory midday caffeine boost? Well then, head over to Karst Coffee! The adorable food truck offers a variety of drinks including yuzu citrus juice, ginger ale, beer, hot chocolate etc., but my recommendation is certainly the cafe au lait made with smooth hand drip coffee and the naturally-sweet, rich milk straight from the dairy farm nearby. The cow-shaped cookies are also too cute not to buy (and yummy, of course)!

Take a seat on one of the chairs set up, and experience this open-air cafe unlike any other. Here, the ceiling is the infinite, ever-changing colors of the sky, walls are the dynamic mountains all around, and the floor is the softest green grass
