Sunflower fields are some of the prettiest countryside views that really represent the arrival of summer. Here in Tosa City, however, you don’t need to wait until summer vacation as Izuma’s field of early-blooming sunflowers are best seen from mid to late June
Located just a little over an hour by public transportation (or a 35-minute drive) from Kochi City, Izuma’s field blooms with thousands of sunflowers, some of them reaching as tall as two meters! If you pay just 100 yen (in addition to the 400 yen entrance fee per adult), you can take home three sunflowers too! Why not put them in a pretty vase and brighten up your accommodation with energetic summer vibes?
Izuma Sunflower Field is a great place to stop by, especially if you’re checking out the traditional paper-making town of Ino or the crystal-clear Niyodo River nearby
For lunch, my recommendation (#editorschoice), which continues with the summer yellow theme, would be to savor the delicious omurice at Manma-tei! Stir-fried rice topped with a fluffy omelet and dollop of ketchup–it’s a classic dish in Japan that Manma-tei has perfected over their 30 years in business! The omurice here also uses plenty of locally-grown ‘sugar tomatoes’, which are famous for their divine sweetness
