Different regions often have unique slogans that represent who the people are and what they stand for. Kochi is no exception. Our catchphrase is “Kochi-ke” (Kochi family) because that’s what we hope you’ll feel here–a sense of warm welcome, acceptance, safety, and belonging–as if you’re part of one big family
The annual Yosakoi Festival, which will be held this August, is a great example of the kind of community we are proud to be, and the values we hold dear to our hearts. Regardless of your age, gender, race, religion, cultural background, or even dance experience, Yosakoi welcomes you with open arms! Instead of having strict rules like many traditional festivals in Japan, Yosakoi is more about letting your unique self shine, which means you will find all kinds of costumes, choreography, and music styles (from rock and salsa to Brazilian samba)!
Yosakoi reminds us that who you are and what you bring to the world is a gift that deserves to be celebrated! We hope you will join us this summer and help us make this festival one to remember
