After years of cancellations and restrictions due to the pandemic, we are delighted to announce that Kochi’s biggest summer festival will finally return this August…in full force!
The Yosakoi Festival is scheduled to take place across 17 different venues in Kochi City from August 9th to 12th, featuring an estimated number of over 200 dance teams. This will be the first time in four years that the Yosakoi Festival will take place essentially at the same scale as it did before the pandemic. No enforced mask-wearing, no social distancing requirements, no limitations on the number of participants and spectators…the return of Yosakoi reminds us that we made it through
This year is also special for another reason…it marks the festival’s 70th anniversary! In 1954, the Yosakoi Festival began as a way to boost people’s morale during the postwar depression, and 70 years later, it continues to give us hope that there is always something to live for and look forward to in life, no matter the challenges
Stay tuned for more Yosakoi content to come as we get increasingly excited for the festival!
