Autumn is fast approaching…ready to ride some waves?

If you look at Kochi on a map, you will notice that it covers almost the entire southern half of Shikoku. Thanks to its vast lands, Kochi is blessed with diverse geography, such as one of Japan’s largest karsts, a UNESCO-designated geological park that dates back millions of years, crystal-clear rivers and of course…over 240 kilometers of travelable distance along the Pacific Ocean coast (facing Tosa Bay)! That means, in addition to hikers, cyclists, and kayakers (just to name a few), surfers can surely find a home here too

Located about 1.5 hours from Kochi Station by train, the quaint seaside town of Kuroshio is one of the best surfing spots for all levels. Away from the crowds, serene Irino Beach stretches across 4 kilometers, offering plenty of space for you to catch the perfect wave. Depending on the time of year, you might also get to see Sunabi Museum’s famous outdoor exhibition along the white sand beach where hundreds of uniquely-designed t-shirts flutter in the ocean breeze!

Kuroshio Town is famous for another activity…whale watching! Ogata Whale Watching has offered tours for over 30 years, led by professionals who ensure a respectful and safe distance from the beautiful creatures
