Okyaku Culture
Okyaku Culture
Crowds of celebrating people gather in Kochi to drink.
This local "Okyaku" culture is all about everyone gathering to eat and drink. The people of Kochi Prefecture love this aspect of their culture. They love to spend their time kicking back and letting the drinks flow. "Sawachi" cuisine is the specialty of Kochi Prefecture. The sashimi, stewed dishes, and desserts are all presented very colorfully. Kochi style is great conversation around a huge dish of food and never-ending drinks. It's not uncommon in Hirome Market to see people meeting for the first time, pouring drinks for each other, and striking up a conversation. There's no boundary between Japanese people and foreigners here. If you see some people having fun, feel free to jump on in!
You can communicate from your heart! Making connections with people is the best way to make great memories.
