Kochi Culture: The Movable Bridge of Tei Port

Tei Port is a seemingly quiet fishing harbor with a unique method for allowing its fleet to access the sea. Six times a day, the road that cuts across the harbor entrance raises to an almost 90-degree angle, allowing the local fishermen to access the ocean and return with their catch.

The bridge takes a total of 6 minutes to be raised and lowered, and remains standing for a period of time while all boats travel underneath. Don’t miss grabbing a photo from the tollhouse on the western side of the bridge – the angle makes it appear as if the road is leading to the sky.
