Full bloom at full moon

Gekkozakura (“moonlight cherry blossom”) is a giant, single cherry tree standing on a hill in the town of Otsuki, which is located near the westernmost tip of Kochi. This legendary tree is said to reach full bloom at full moon during peak season, and even fascinated Dr. Tomitaro Makino, the renowned Kochi-born botanist (aka the father of Japanese botany), who researched it extensively

From late March to early April, the gekkozakura is lit up at night with the moon glowing in the background, offering perhaps one of the most glorious and enchanting hanami (cherry bloom viewing) experiences in Japan

Just a 20-minute drive from Otsuki Town is the tropical paradise of Kashiwa Island! Learn more: https://visitkochijapan.com/en/see-and-do/10030
