What’s your favorite winter food? There is nothing like having a hot, comforting meal when the weather is chilly and your feet are cold. Today, we’d like to introduce you to two of Kochi’s dishes which will warm you up on cold winter nights
Nabeyaki Ramen
This is a local favorite originated in Susaki City. It started with a ramen shop owner who carried ramen in an enameled pot to keep it warm during deliveries. The base of this ramen is chicken stock soup with soy sauce. It comes with a raw egg, spring onions, and chikuwa (a kind of fish cake) on top of the steaming hot ramen. Nabeyaki ramen is known as the hottest ramen in japan! There are three fun ways to enjoy this ramen:
Keep the egg in the soup until you are almost done, so you can enjoy the perfectly soft-boiled egg
Mix the egg with the soup to make the noodles creamy and mild
Sukiyaki style! Dip the noodles in beaten egg (contained in the lid of the pot!) to get the full egg flavor and cool your hot noodles
Jinen-don (mountain yam bowl)
This unique bowl is made from freshly cooked rice, chicken and egg boiled in broth soup, and grated mountain yam on top. The strong umami of the chicken and the delicate earthy aroma of the yam matches beautifully! Mountain yam is very good for your health, so its a perfect meal to stay warm and healthy
