Have you heard about the movie ‘BELLE’?!
This brand new animated film is magical, and director Mamoru Hosoda received a 14-minute (!!) standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. The story is about Suzu, a 17-year-old girl, and her adventures in the virtual world called “U”. While the movie is partially held in a cutting edge technology world, it’s also somehow nostalgic, illustrates life's challenges, and is very touching
You may be wondering why we are talking about this movie. It's because this animated masterpiece was inspired by Kochi, specifically the Niyodo area! Since you are following us on Facebook (thank you very much!), we bet you will notice the beautiful rivers and spots in the movie look familiar
The unique bridge without handrails on the beautiful river is the Aso submersible bridge, and it is featured as part of Suzu's route to school. This bridge does not have railings so that it can withstand flooding during the rainy season by sinking into the water!
By watching ‘BELLE’, you can experience a bit of country life in Kochi! Be sure to check when the movie is released in your country, and hopefully visit the actual places when it is safe to travel.
Aso submersible bridge is about a 1-hour drive away from Kochi City
