Kengo Kuma, the renowned architect, is known for his many uniquely designed architectures across Japan as well as all over the world, from Sydney to Switzerland; there are many architectures and exhibitions designed by Kengo Kuma.And Yusuhara town is home to several of his marvellous works.Yusuhara town's theatre "Yusuhara-za" is said to have influenced Kengo Kuma's interest in wooden architecture.
Ever since he came to Yusuhara town in 1992, he has helped out in the restoration of "Yusuhara-za" as well as designed the many wonderful buildings that populate the town.Many of the buildings use Japanese cedar and are built using traditional Japanese building techniques, giving them a distinct Japanese charm that is echoed in the charming names given to some of the buildings, like the "Kumo no ue no Hotel" (the hotel above the clouds).
