Daruma sunrise and sunset, also called the Omega Sun, is a mysterious phenomenon giving observers the illusion that the sun is shaped like the omega symbol, or like the Japanese talisman named Daruma (a charm used to protect people from evil forces).
The mirage is probably caused by the temperature difference and the refraction of the sunlight.
As this phenomenon can be mainly seen during the cold season, we are expecting to enjoy Daruma sunrises and sunsets pretty soon in Kochi.
They are usually considered as lucky charms because of their rarity, but in areas like Sukomo, they can appear up to 20 times within a 3.5 month period!
Seeing the sun with an omega shape is definitely a breathtaking experience, don't you think so?
