The Encyclopedia of Peculiar Yokai

Kochi Prefecture invites you to visit the Yokoyama Memorial Manga Museum!

The Yokoyama Memorial Manga Museum is a cultural establishment dedicated to celebrating famous manga artists from Kochi. The museum has a public manga library on the third floor, where visitors can browse for free over 15,000 volumes, comprised of manga drawn by local artists and works that have left their mark in manga history!

This summer, from 07/18 to 09/06, the museum will be holding a “yokai” exhibit, during which 80 paintings of Japanese spirits and supernatural creatures will be on display. These are the original paintings from "The Encyclopedia of Peculiar Yokai", drawn by Fumio Sako, a manga artist and author from the city of Shimanto.

Fumio Sako's work is simply amazing, and introduces many fun and eccentric yokai from Japanese folklore!
