Architectural wonders and hearty feasts in Yusuhara Town

Located approximately 1.5 hours from Kochi City by car, Yusuhara is a charming mountain town, home to five (currently-open) buildings designed by one of Japan’s most famous architects, Kengo Kuma. The first photo shows the interior of the Kumo-no-Ue-no Library, which features intricately-woven pillars of wood on the ceiling that resembles a “canopy” filtering sunlight through leaves of a forest. Indeed, the architectural luminary is known to incorporate themes of environment, sustainability, local history and more, in his designs

After walking around the quaint town, I highly recommend stopping by farm restaurant Kusabuki for a hearty feast featuring simple yet flavorful meals, made with local ingredients
