Ride from river to sea! All aboard the Limited Express train
In Japan, there are different kinds of trains and I'm not only referring to the design. Certain types can get you to your destination faster than others, and today, I would like to introduce the 2700 series Limited Express train operated by Tosa Kuroshio Railway
Not only does this train look extra cool with its sleek color scheme, it can maintain a high speed (up to 120 kilometers an hour) even along curves! Remote workers and international travelers may also be happy to know that this train offers free Wi-Fi. In addition, there are outlets beside every seat so you can ensure all your devices are charged up for your adventures ahead
In just over two hours, this train can take you all the way from Kochi City to the southwestern end of the prefecture called Sukumo. This area is popular for witnessing the spectacular mirage of the sun setting in a mystical shape beyond the horizon. This phenomenon called the daruma sunset only occurs under specific weather conditions so you’re certainly lucky if you manage to catch a glimpse!
This train also stops at Nakamura Station on the way to Sukumo, which is located right near the crystal-clear Shimanto River! I highly recommend renting a bicycle at the Shimanto City Tourism Association and cycling along the river to the picturesque Sada Chinkabashi (submersible bridge)! If you’re more of a beach person, you could cycle (or take the local train) to the beautiful Irino Beach in Kuroshio Town. In addition to enjoying the stunning ocean views, I highly recommend trying the delicious udon noodles at restaurant Iroriya (near the Kuroshio Town Office) to warm up on a chilly December day
