Tea time along Japan’s most beautiful river

Fun fact! The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism selected the Niyodo River as having the best water quality of any river in Japan 8 times in the past 10 years. So, you know there's concrete evidence, and it’s not just my Kochi-loving bias when I say this is Japan’s most beautiful river

While admiring the river with your eyes, how about savoring its blessings at the same time? Just under 1.5 hours from Kochi City by car, CHA CAFE ASUNARO serves a scrumptious lunch plate that features all kinds of locally-grown ingredients including mountain veggies, konnyaku (devil’s tongue) and more. You will also find various tea-flavored desserts and drinks like waffles, ice creams, lattes and smoothies

The special local tea grown on the surrounding steep hillsides is called sawatari, which is beloved for its refreshing flavor and gentle aroma that expands with every sip. The husband of the owner is a tea farmer who took on the family business that has been continuing for generations
