Fantasy views and ice cream on a perfect Niyodo River day
The Aso Chinkabashi is one of Kochi’s most picturesque submersible bridges, made without railings so they can withstand flooding. The 121-meter bridge has recently become more widely known, as it set the stage for the 2021 animated film “BELLE”. Directed by Mamoru Hosoda, it’s a magical story about a 17-year-old girl from Kochi who navigates a virtual world called “U” and the adventures that pursue
If you ever get to walk along the Aso Chinkabashi with the expansive blue skies above, the tiny hamlet of Kamaida ahead, and the crystal-clear Niyodo River flowing beneath…you may feel just as moved as the audience members at the Cannes Film Festival who gave “BELLE” a 14-minute standing ovation after the screening!
A little hungry after the beautiful stroll? Perhaps craving something sweet? Well, perhaps there’s no better way to end a perfect summer day than a bite of delicious ice cream
Just 12 minutes from Aso Chinkabashi by car is Kochi Ice Baiten, which uses specialty Tosa Jiro eggs in their soft-serve. You might be thinking…eggs?? In ice cream?? Yep, and it’s absolutely delicious! The divine sweetness and deep richness from the milk and eggs complement one another magnificently. Some of the other menu items include french toast, waffles, parfaits (takeout ok), and coffee topped with soft-serve ice cream. Every dish is so pretty they look like they’ve come straight out of an anime (not to mention the view of the sparkling Niyodo River from the cafe too)!
