Since we received several lovely comments about our tea post last month, we would like to dive a little deeper into the world of this irresistibly aromatic and flavorful beverage
Kochi’s tea is mostly grown among steep mountains, and collectively known as Tosa tea (“Tosa” is the old name for the prefecture, dating back to over 1000 years ago). The third photo will show you just how steep the tea farmers have to climb to harvest the leaves! Although more tea farms now use machines, Kunitomo Farm, located in the town of Ino, continues the traditional process of harvesting tea leaves by hand
The mineral-rich soil, high temperature differences between day and night, as well as pristine waters of nearby rivers all contribute to the rich aroma, mild bitterness and complex flavor of Tosa tea
Nestled in the beautiful hills near the crystal blue Niyodo River, Ikegawa Chaen offers delicious tea parfaits. Highly recommended!
