The Yoshinobu rice terraces are a dreamy wonderland located in the town of Motoyama, just over an hour from Kochi City by car. Not only is the view breathtaking, the Tenku no Sato (home of the heavens) rice produced here is considered one of the most delicious in the country
But why is the rice so delicious? Check out some of the reasons below
Temperature difference
Since the Yoshinobu rice terraces are located in a valley surrounded by mountains, there are large temperature differences between day and night. This helps the rice retain high amounts of starch, which contributes to its sweet flavor.
Clay soil
The high mineral content and water-holding capacity of clay soil cultivates healthy, flavorful rice.
Water
The magnesium-rich water collected from the deep sea of Muroto contributes to the umami of Tenku no Sato rice.
Less chemicals
Compared to standard levels, Tenku no Sato farmers use 50% less chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Not only does this protect the inherent flavors of the rice, but also, the traditional cultivation process that has continued for years in the area
Thanks to the combination of these factors, Tenku no Sato won first place in the National Best Rice Competition TWICE, which has never been done before
