Monet’s art comes to life far from Giverny

Monet’s Garden Marmottan in Kitagawa Village is the only garden in the world that is officially recognized by the Claude Monet Foundation, and allowed to bear the artist’s name (other than the original one in Giverny, France)

The garden is particularly splendid during the spring and summer months. Temperate water lilies start to bloom from the end of April, followed by tropical varieties. Blue water lilies, which feature in some of Monet’s most famous paintings (and cannot be seen in Giverny’s garden), takes center stage in July

We definitely recommend you visit in the morning as there’s so much to see (plus, there is a cafe where you can have lunch overlooking the garden)! Also, some of the lilies tend to close later in the day

There are regular train connections between Kochi City and Nahari Station. From there, the garden is a quick 10-minute shuttle bus ride away!
