Artsy small town charm with a 1000-year history

Home to a cluster of distinctive buildings designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma, and a quick 30-minute drive to the Shikoku Karst Natural Park, the town of Yusuhara in western Kochi is a great place to kick back for a day or two

Walk around the main street and enjoy the expansive mountain views, free of the utility poles that so often block the scenery in other places. Visit the retro Yusuhara-za theater, which the community has lovingly preserved for over 70 years. Pay your respects at 1000-year-old Mishima Shrine and check out the dynamic statues of Kochi-born samurai who helped end Japan’s feudal age in 1868

In addition to taking in all the history and architecture, definitely stop by the local stores and cafes, a great way to meet the locals!
