As an important part of Children’s Day celebrations, from April to early May, you will find koinobori (carp streamers) flying in the spring breeze across Japan. However, the people of Ino Town have a different way of displaying koinobori, that incorporates their generations of traditional Japanese paper-making knowledge
Instead of flying the koinobori in the sky, in Ino they swim in the river!
During the town's annual tradition, over 200 carp streamers made out of a special paper-based, water-resistant fabric are let loose in the Niyodo River
It's a truly majestic view to see the hand-painted streamers swim gracefully in the river's crystal clear waters
This year, the event is taking place between May 3rd and 5th for the first time in two years!
