Have you ever heard of Kitagawa Village? Located in eastern Kochi, it’s home to the only garden outside of France officially associated with Claude Monet…and much more!
Fudo Waterfall definitely makes the must-visit list, with three waterfalls and a stream. While they’re only 3 or 4 meters high, we bet you will be mesmerized by the sight and sound of the crystal clear water flowing down moss-covered rocks
Just a 25-minute walk from the waterfall is the Yuzu no Yado hotel, where you can relax in a silky hot spring and stay in a cozy modern room with lush mountain views
If you drive 40 minutes from the center of Kitagawa, you’ll find an area called Shima, which is populated by kimono-wearing, sunglasses-rocking, sake-drinking…scarecrows!
Mr. Kamimura and his wife have been hand-making these works of art ever since they returned to the village after retiring in 2013, and saw how quiet the village had become due to the declining population. So, in an effort to bring back the liveliness and entertain the community, they bring out the scarecrows from their garage and place them all over the Shima area every morning
Let’s go on an adventure off the beaten path in Kitagawa
