Best cherry blossom spots in Kochi City!

Although there are amazing cherry blossom spots all across Kochi Prefecture, today we are introducing some of the best places in Kochi City to have your perfect, dreamy spring picnic

Kochi Castle

The view of 400-year-old Kochi Castle surrounded by numerous cherry trees is hard to beat. After centuries of surviving wars, fires and other catastrophes, Kochi’s castle is the only one in Japan where the original castle tower and main keep remain intact. Make sure to come visit at night too, when the castle grounds are lit up, and the cherry blossoms create a different kind of irresistible beauty.

Horikawa Canal

A quick 20-minute walk from Kochi Castle, you will find a kilometer-long row of cherry trees blooming on either bank of the beautiful Horikawa Canal. Besides walking under the tunnel of cherry blossoms, we also recommend hopping on a sightseeing boat along the river.

Makino Botanical Garde

This enormous garden, about 20 minutes by bus from Kochi Station, covers 6 hectares (around 2.5 football fields!) and honors the late Kochi-born botanist Dr. Tomitaro Makino. He was an avid lover of cherry blossoms, which is why you will find over 40 different varieties of cherry trees across the garden. This is the perfect place to spend a relaxing and rejuvenating spring day.

Godaisan Park

Just a 5-minute walk from the Makino Botanical Garden is Godaisan Park, where you can not only enjoy magnificent cherry blossoms, but also panoramic views of the city from the observation deck.
