Kochi has a delightful culture of enjoying sake with everyday meals called ‘shoku-chu-shu’. The sake brings out the flavor of the food and it pairs well with not only Japanese dishes but also with international foods
Suigei is a brewery that has been creating delicious shoku-chu-shu in Kochi with passion for about 50 years
Despite the fact sake is a Japanese national liquor with a long history, the consumption of sake is relatively low compared to other alcoholic drinks in Japan. To change this situation, Suigei took action to show that sake can be a more casual drink! By the way, did you know this forward-thinking brewery also sells their sake in the United States?
Located a 40 minute drive from Kochi Station (or 20 minute taxi ride from Sakawa Station, for those who prefer not to drive!). The brewery is housed in a beautiful modern building with a wooden terrace surrounded by lush green mountains. The TOSAGURA brewery offers tours in Japanese (be sure to book in advance!) and the SUIGEI STORE has a cafe, shop, and gallery in it
Make sure to try their beautiful parfait using sake lees ice cream (which is non-alcoholic) and enjoy the art pieces inspired by Suigei’s signature sake series DAITO in their gallery
