Dragonflies, irises and water lilies at Shimanto Dragonfly Park

From late May to early June this park turns purple with iris flowers, along with around 3000 gorgeous water lilies that bloom until late September. But that is not all, as there are also 77 different types of dragonflies that live and thrive here, thanks to the pure water of the nearby Shimanto River.

Created in 1985, this is the very first dragonfly sanctuary in the world, and you can experience the life cycle of these important (and pretty!) insects year-round.

The park is open from 9:00 to 17:00 (except on Mondays) and is an easy 15-minute bike ride from Nakamura Station.
