May at the Makino Botanical Garden

May at the Makino Botanical Garden

This huge garden covers 6 hectares, and honors the late Kochi-born botanist Dr. Tomitaro Makino, known as the father of Japanese botany. The gentle winding paths are surrounded by over 3,000 plant species, so that there is always something in bloom, no matter when you visit! Some of our favorite highlights are the large Greenhouse, a whimsical structure filled with a rainbow of tropical and jungle plants, and the wild azaleas that bloom on Ketsumo Hill and Konkon Hill.

The garden is located in Kochi City, and is on the route of the convenient MY-YU sightseeing bus. Chikurin-ji Temple is just next door, be sure to check it out too!
