As I soak in the picture-perfect view of the river, it’s easy to forget about the vibrant aquatic life underneath the calm surface that sits as still as glass. Freshwater unagi is one of the many lucky species that gets to call the Shimanto River home (I think I might be a little envious)! The delicacy attracts people from all over, especially during summer when its nutritious vitamins are said to help combat the harsh effects of heat, including reviving energy and appetite
Located under 2 hours from Kochi City by car, Shimantoya has served some of the freshest unagi you can find for more than 50 years!
