35 years of celebrating nature as art

One of Kuroshio Town’s biggest (and certainly artistic) events of the year is Sunabi Museum’s T-Shirt Art Exhibition (taking place between May 2nd and 7th this year). Irino Beach turns into a grand natural art installation featuring hundreds of shirts, each uniquely designed by people from across Japan. The shirts fluttering in the wind against the the backdrop of the blue sky and ocean is a lovely sight

You can easily wander around for hours breathing in the ocean breeze while imagining the story behind each t-shirt. Besides just the exhibition though, you can witness a range of joyful sights along the beach on certain days including a barefoot marathon competition or my personal favorite...flip flop-flinging contest!

Hata Surf Dojo is also now open for the new season, so why not combine your visit with riding some great waves? Beginners are welcome! Originally from Australia, Bruce Dillon has introduced hundreds of visitors to the beauty of Kochi’s ocean since opening Hata Surf Dojo almost 20 years ago
