Record snowfall in Kochi right now! (Alert)

Since the evening of December 22, heavy snowfall has transformed the central regions of Kochi Prefecture into a winter wonderland. In fact, an official alert for heavy snowfall was issued for the first time in 4 years and 10 months (areas affected include Kochi City, Nankoku City, Tosa City, Susaki City, Konan City, Sakawa Town, Ochi Town and Hidaka Village).

By 8AM on December 23, 14 centimeters of snow had already accumulated across Kochi City. Heavy snowfall is expected to continue across the central and western areas (Shimanto District) where the alert will remain active until the evening of December 23.

As far as we know, the time tables for inter-prefectural highways, JR trains, MY-YU sightseeing bus, Tosaden tram, domestic flights, etc. have been affected. If you’re planning on visiting Kochi this weekend, please refer to respective websites for updated information on delays and changes.

It is very rare to get to see Kochi blanketed in beautiful snow, and we’re expecting a white Christmas too, but please stay warm and safe as well as keep aware of alerts and warnings.
