Kochi City’s premier night view

If you follow us regularly, you’ll know that Kochi is chock-full of spectacular views. Most of the time you’ll be experiencing those in the daytime, but here is one spot that you really must visit after dark! Just 30 minutes from Kochi Station by the convenient MY-YU sightseeing bus, the observatory on the top of Mt. Godai has one of the best night views around. In fact, the brand-new observatory just opened in September

The observatory offers 180-degree views of the city and Urado Bay. According to locals, the very best light is just after sunset, when the bodies of water take on an extra-special glow. We highly recommend coming to watch the sunset and then lingering to see the night view. It can get quite chilly once the sun goes down, so don’t forget to wrap up warm! Gloves and a hat would be handy if you’re visiting at this time of the year

A good portion of the mountain is actually a park and there is plenty to see. Chikurin-ji Temple, with its beautiful five-storied pagoda, is located here. Nearby is the lush Makino Botanical Garden, which is dedicated to Dr. Tomitaro Makino, the father of Japanese botany. If you have time, why not make a day—and a night—of it at Godaisan?
