Standing upon the steep hillside of Mt. Konomine in Yasuda Town, is Kochi's highest (and perhaps toughest) temple
The 45-degree slope and 150 steps might sound intimidating, but the panoramic Pacific Ocean view awaiting the hardworking traveler at the end makes every step worth it. However, the beauty of this temple not only exists in the destination, but also the journey! Along the sides of the steps, you will find a well-maintained Japanese garden where seasonal flowers bloom and colorful carp swim. Especially during autumn, fiery maple leaves magnificently complement the traditional architecture of the temple
The natural spring water flowing down rocks at Konomine-ji Temple is also believed to have healing powers. Fill it up with your water bottle, and enjoy its magic as long as possible!
Tonohama Station (closest stop to Konomine-ji Temple) is only 1 hour and 20 minutes from Kochi Station by train
